The UCKG church in Haiti

As neighbours to earthquake-hit Haiti, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) in the Dominican Republic has appealed for international assistance in the form of nonperishable food, clothing and clean water. This appeal for the destitute inHaiti is a demonstration of solidarity has that goes beyond nationality, race and religion.

The humanitarian drive was started by the UCKG in the Dominican Republic last week. On Wednesday, 10th February, Bishop Julio César, Pastor Alex, head of the T-Ayudo Foundation and consular representatives of the Dominican Republic in Haiti gathered with many volunteers in Pétionville, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

They assembled the donations of nonperishable food, water and clothes to help their brothers and sisters in Haiti. Starting from 3 am they packed trucks to capacity and found they had far more donations than space on the available transport. The remainder would have to await the next transport shipment. Bishop Pedro, responsible for evangelism in Haiti, said: “We’re doing what the Lord Jesus taught us. We are not only saying words but also giving spiritual food and humanitarian aid to all these people.”

Recalling the horrors of living through an earthquake, Bishop Pedro said: “The feeling is indescribable. We were busy evangelising at the time and we saw people start to run … I felt the earth shaking, but only after a few seconds realised what was happening …The solidarity of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God has been and is still very important. We are here and we will continue, come what may … where the afflicted and needy are, then the Lord Jesus leads.”

The bishops and volunteers prayed for Haiti and promised there would be future drives to contribute to the relief of those who lost everything in the earthquake. Appeals were made to people around the world to show their solidarity with those who had endured so much in Haiti and who needed assistance in many ways.
